"Covering both new and existing boilers, which are divided into 19 subcategories, the rules [EPA] establish numerical limits for emissions of five pollutants: carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen chloride (HCl), mercury (Hg), and filterable particulate matter or total selected metals. There are various requirements regarding start-up and shutdown to meet, and most boilers are required to have a tune-up; meanwhile, a one-time energy assessment is required for affected units."

"Anaerobic digestion of cattle manure has not taken off in the arid western United States like it has in other parts of the country. The main reason it hasn’t taken hold in this part of the United States is water scarcity. Water is a critical factor in anaerobic digestion.
Researchers at Colorado State University believe this method of manure disposal might still work under the right circumstances. For that reason, they have created an online decision tool for use by both cattle feedlot and dairy farmers to help them determine if anaerobic digestion of their manure could be a viable optio

"Those enjoying cord wood or pellet heat have a leg up on the frigid season. Data from the New Hampshire Office of Energy and Planning indicates that wood pellets are running $25.50 cheaper per MMBtu than propane and $13.71 cheaper per MMBtu than heating oil, and in some parts of the country such as Minnesota and Wisconsin, propane prices have doubled in the last several months, reaching close to $5 per gallon in some areas."

"NREL, along with partners from the Electric Power Research Institute and University of Colorado and collaboration from a large international industry stakeholder group, embarked on a comprehensive study to understand the ways in which wind power technology can assist the power system by providing control of its active power output being injected onto the grid. The focus of this report is a mitigation strategy that is not often discussed and is in some ways counterintuitive: the use of wind power to support power system reliability by providing active power control (APC) at fast timescales."
