WSU Extension Energy Program Staff Member Appointed to Prestigious Board

August 2008 -- The Director of the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries recently appointed Michael Lubliner -- a Building Science Specialist at the Washington State University (WSU) Extension Energy Program -- to serve on the Factory Assembled Structures Advisory Board for the state because of his high quality support of consumers and the industry of factory-assembled structures.

WSU Energy Program honored with an EPA Award

July 2008 -- The Washington State University (WSU) Extension Energy Program recently received the Energy Star in Housing Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This award recognizes the important contribution that the organization has made to energy efficient construction and environmental protection last year.

Energy Star continues to grow in the residential new construction market. In 2007, over 120,000 new homes were constructed to meet Energy Star guidelines, bringing the total number of Energy Star qualified homes to more than 840,000. Owners of these homes are saving more than $200 million annually on their utility bills each year.

Energy Efficient Buildings

June 2008 -- The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Building Technologies Program sponsors the Northwest Building Efficiency Center, which is one of two regional building technology application centers started in 2008. DOE will fund this project through March 2012. The WSU Extension Energy Program manages the program.

The Northwest Building Efficiency Center offers information, programs, incentives or people with the expertise to help implement projects:

  • Training and special events
  • Data, facts, research reports, software tools
  • Product and technology reviews
  • Engineering analysis, design review or site assessments
  • Expert referrals

Two people from WSU serve on the Governor's Climate Advisory Team

May 2008 -- Two people from Washington State University (WSU) now serve on the Governor's Climate Advisory Team (CAT). Chad Kruger, Interim Director of the Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources, will serve on the team again this year. He will co-lead the Agricultural Sub-Committee with Kirk Cook of Washington State Department of Agriculture. Jake Fey, Director of the WSU Extension Energy Program, is new to the group and will serve on the Buildings and Energy Efficiency Implementation Working Group and the State Environmental Policy Act Implementation Working Group. In addition, Jake will be on the Growth Management Act Advisory Policy Committee.
