Washington State Energy Code – Residential (WSEC-R) Update
The 2024 Washington State Energy Code – Residential (WSEC-R) development and adoption process is currently in progress. The State Building Code Council (SBCC) is continuing work through the formal rulemaking phases, including drafting, public hearings, economic analysis, and final adoption steps. Because these steps are ongoing, all dates, filings, and final code language remain subject to change as the process moves forward. As per the SBCC meeting on January 23, 2026, the Council unanimously approved to delay the final adoption of the 2024 Washington State Building Codes until August 21, 2026. The SBCC action also adjusted the public comment period for Group 1 & 2 amendment petitions, now opening May 6, 2026, and closing June 12, 2026, at the conclusion of the required public comment hearings. The effective date of the 2024 codes will be May 3, 2027.
The WSEC CR 102 filling has been proponed to June 17, 2026, with a public comment period from June 17 to July 17, 2026. Public Hearings are scheduled for July 14 in Olympia and July 17 in Spokane.
